Prof. Joachim Osur, PhD, was appointed the Chairman of Murang’a University of Technology Council in August 2017. He is the Director of regional offices and field offices at Amref Health Africa.
Prof. Osur is a renowned public health and reproductive health specialist with wide experience in health programming in the African context. He has contributed immensely to health systems strengthening in various countries. He was among the first people in the world to successfully pilot integration of HIV and reproductive health care. He is known for fighting for women’s reproductive rights and is among the experts who have addressed the US House committee on foreign affairs on the effects of the Mexico City policy.
He has also appeared in the UN Committee on the Rights of the child to defend reproductive rights of children. He is among those working in the African continent currently to increase access to family planning, reduce maternal mortality, abolish unsafe abortion and improve linkages and integration of reproductive health services and HIV/AIDS.
He is a Fellow of the European Committee on Sexual Medicine (FECSM. Prof. Osur is a medical doctor registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board. He holds a PhD degree in Reproductive Health and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Kenyatta University. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi.
